What is a Travelex Cash Passport?

What is a Travelex Cash Passport?

The Travelex Cash Passport is a prepaid currency card available in Euros, British Pounds, US, Australian and New Zealand Dollars. It provides all the traditional security of travellers cheques with the convenience of a debit card, and it allows you to pre-load your travel money for safe and convenient use at ATMs and retailers worldwide. All charges are clear upfront so you will know exactly what each transaction will cost, because your exchange rate is locked in at the time of loading your Cash Passport. If you rely on an ordinary bank or credit card for cash withdrawals or payments abroad, the exchange rates will fluctuate throughout your trip, making it difficult to budget accurately.

How to use your Travelex Cash Passport

Your Cash Passport will generally be activated within four business hours of purchase. Just like a domestic debit card, you can use your Cash Passport at any ATM or store displaying the Visa logo. Please note that when choosing the account on the ATM or Eftpos screen, always choose the ‘Credit’ option. Remember, your card is PIN protected and not linked to your bank account, so your funds are secure.

Where can I get a Travelex Cash Passport?

Travelex Cash Passport is available at outlets across New Zealand including most Travel Agents, NZCU Credit Unions, and all Travelex stores. Click here for our branch locator..

What if my Travelex Cash Passport gets stolen?

One of the many benefits of the Cash Passport is that if you lose your card or it is stolen, your funds can be replaced instantly. Our dedicated team is on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help you get back to enjoying your travels. At the time of issue of your Cash Passport, you will receive a quick reference card listing emergency card services contact numbers.

How do I reload my Travelex Cash Passport?

You can reload your Cash Passport with additional funds from anywhere in the world using Bill Payment via Internet or phone banking or at any participating Cash Passport outlet.

How do I check the balance on my Travelex Cash Passport?

Simply go to "My Account" at www.cashpassport.co.nz, log in, and you will be able to see your Cash Passport balance straight away – you can also check out any recent transactions there. Alternatively, you can phone our Card Services department to use our automated balance service. Some ATMs also provide balances, but it will not necessarily be the same exchange rate that will be applied to your card, so a slight variation may occur. We recommend using our online or phone services.

What should I do with my Travelex Cash Passport after the trip?

Simply keep your Travelex Cash Passport for your next trip. Your Cash Passport is valid for three years from activation. Until then, you can load it with additional funds as often as you like up to the maximum loading values. Alternatively, you can choose to close your card account and return the remaining balance to your bank account, by flling in a "Cash Out" form online or returning to any NZCU branch or other Travelex outlet.

At NZCU South we want to help you get the most out of your trip. Our friendly staff will issue your Travelex Cash Passport on the spot and answer any questions you may have.

Bon Voyage!
